Johann Sebastian Bach's St John Passion BWV 245 is considered one of the most important masterpieces in the history of Western music. Composed in 1724 in Leipsic, Germany, and revised by the composer in 1725, 1739 and 1749, it is an operatic portrayal of Christ's last days, his trial and judgment, and his final hours of agony.
