    Born in Besançon in 1734 into a family of craftsmen, Claude-Joseph Bertrand began his career as a drawing teacher at the Ecole d'Artillerie. His participation in competitions organised by the Académie des Sciences, Belles Lettres et Arts de Besançon for the embellishment of the town enabled him to showcase his talent for architecture. Pierre-Joseph Bertrand was very involved in the life of the town as a supervising architect, and was responsible for a wide variety of projects, including the development of parks and gardens, châteaux and private mansions. Tickets: €9 - €6 for students, under-18s, members of the Tourist Office (on presentation of card) and disabled visitors. Free for under-12s and jobseekers.
