Following archaeological excavations carried out during the construction of the gymnasium of the Lumière College in Besançon, a very large "domus" was discovered.
Inside, remarkable mosaics dating from the end of the 2nd century were found, completing the discovery of the Neptune mosaic in 1973. Three mosaics have been restored. Two of them, the Neptune mosaic and the Medusa mosaic, are on display in the Besançon Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology. The third one has been restored and exhibited in the city centre at the place of discovery. It is covered by a glass structure and visible to all.
