The SolHimal association was set up in 1988 to support Tibetan refugees and the Himalayan populations of Nepal and India. As part of its activities, it is organising an exhibition and sale of Himalayan handicrafts at the Salle Proudhon in Besançon's Kursaal, in aid of the association.
Visitors to the sale will be able to discover a variety of original items made by Tibetan and Nepalese craftspeople, including Buddhist objects, thangkas, cushions, hand-knotted woollen rugs, cashmere scarves, Himalayan teas, jewellery, bags, rice paper items, Himalayan clothing and singing bowls.
As well as discovering these treasures of Himalayan craftsmanship, visitors will have the opportunity to find out more about SolHimal's sponsorship activities and meet the association's volunteers and sponsors.
Proceeds from the sale will go towards two ambitious projects: the construction of greenhouses in the Dolpo region of Nepal, to enable 100 families to provide for their vegetable needs and sell the surplus, and the establishment of orchards in the same region, offering 160 families the chance to make a living from trading apples and nuts.
A great opportunity for solidarity and discovery, not to be missed!
