The Schütz Choir has had the pleasure of singing many works from the great choral repertoire.
In 2024, we're returning to this theme, but we'll be singing in Saint-Jean Cathedral, perfectly suited to music for choir and organ.
The concert will open with a piece by Marcel Dupré, one of the great organists of the 20th century. Entitled "Le monde dans l'attente du Sauveur" ("The world awaiting the Saviour"), it first suggests the chaos of the world, then the hope of the coming of the Messiah heralded by the Gregorian melody "Jesu Redemptor omnium" ("Jesus Redeemer of all men"), which gradually asserts itself triumphantly.
The Christmas Oratorio by Camille Saint-Saëns then celebrated the birth of Jesus. This work, written for soloists, choir and orchestra, will be performed in a lighter version. The choir will sing all the vocal passages. The accompaniment will be provided by the great organ.
This will be followed by shorter works, composed for the Christmas season, in a variety of styles, mainly from the 19th century, for solo organ or for choir and organ, concluding with an organ piece by Alexandre Guilmant based on 2 traditional Noëls, to which the choir will be added.
