This fountain retains, by its name, the memory of the wine-growing activity that once animated the Battant district and the existence of an old fountain decorated with a stone Bacchus, the work of Claude Lulier in 1579. Alphonse Delacroix, architect of the city, designed the fountain in 1854. Talented architect, Alphonse Delacroix is at the origin of the creation of the arcade aqueduct in 1850. To celebrate the arrival of Arcier waters, the municipality decides to create three new fountains including the Bacchus fountain.
