A short family walk of about 30 minutes to discover 3 springs between Baume-les-Dames and Besançon.

Be careful: the path can be slippery. Bring good shoes. Moreover, the site is private: please stay on the path.
For your first steps, look for the red and white markings. Follow the path. After 200 metres, you will find the first spring: the Bergeret spring.

After another 600 metres, you will come to the other two springs. The first, the lower spring, was tapped in ancient times to supply the town of Besançon with water via an aqueduct (the facilities you see today date from the 19th century powder magazine below). The second, very aesthetic spring, also known as the upper spring, has supplied Besançon with water since the 19th century.

Several activities attracted by the water available on the spot were established on this site: forge, paper mill, powder magazine and even a fish farm! Today you can still see the ponds of the fish farm and a mill transformed into a chapel near the road.

For the more curious, remains of the Roman aqueduct can still be seen on the roadside between Arcier and La Canaie.
